A brisk walk in the Celery Farm Preserve after morning classes served as a mid winter nature bath as we continue to explore the history tied to our region. The marshy area of Allendale had been an ancient Indian gathering place known as Wolf Swamp and Fell’s Meadows, and in the mid 19th century, peat was mined here. The area later became known locally as the celery farm. So called because onions were among the first principal crops grown here.
